Our pro staff can fish! The squad consists of coastal anglers from all over the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic, from tournament anglers, to guides, to straight up passionate recreational anglers. Steve Ward – Panama City Beach, Florida

Steve Ward hails from Panama City Beach, Florida, where grew up fishing the nearby salt. Steve turned Pro in 2013 and has competed at the top level in all of the major Pro Redfish Tournament Series. Steve’s favorite way to chase reds is from the poling platform of his East Cape Fury. His lure of choice – none other than the Flex Mullet rigged weedless – Classic!

Follow Steve as he competes on the IFA Redfish Tour, the Florida Pro Redfish Series, the Elite Two-Man Redfish Series, and the Emerald Coast Redfish Circuit.

Capt. Cooper Hartmann – Seadrift, Texas

Captain Cooper Hartmann was born in Johnson City, Texas, and far from the salt, but that didn’t keep him from finding it. As a kid, Cooper would make the push for the Texas Coast with his dad. With each trip his passion for catching reds and specks grew. So much so, that he even turned down a college baseball scholarship to become a guide.

Capt. Cooper received his USCG captain’s license in 2005 and began guiding in Rockport, Texas. He now lives in Seadrift, Texas, where he is a contract fishing and duck hunting guide for Bayflats Lodge. Capt. Cooper is also an avid redfish tournament angler all along the Texas Coast.

Cooper’s favorite lure is the Flex Mullet.

Ryan Avalos Corpus Christi Pro Staff Boca Chica Baits

Ryan Avalos – Corpus Christi, Texas

( Rhino Ryan ) Ryan Avalos grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, fishing the Laguna Madre. He learned his love and skill for the art of fishing from his uncle, Chris Cruz, and his father, Marcus Avalos. His favorite way to catch schooling redfish and sally trout is wade fishing equipped with the Boca Chica Flex Mullet and Q-Tail.

Ryan has fished with HSJAA in several tournaments against anglers all across the Texas coast, including the Rudy’s Redfish Series Pro-Am circuit. He has only continued to grow more knowledgeable and passionate for the sport of fishing while creating a name for not only himself but his family.

As an avid angler, Ryan is a strong believer in conservation and hopes to encourage others to lend a helping hand for our saltwater fisheries.

Kurtis Wydick Boca Chica Baits Pro Staff from Ingleside Texas

Kurtis Wydick – Ingleside, Texas

Kurtis Wydick was born and raised in a small town in Southeast Kansas, and was outdoors from day one! As a kid, Kurtis grew up bass and catfishing nearby cow ponds, strip pits, and local lakes. After attending college, Kurtis moved to the South Texas salt where he now faced the learning curve of this new fishery. It didn’t take long until he hooked up to his first redfish – marsh mania set in!

Although Kurtis has only been fishing the coast for five years, he has always had the competitive nature of a tournament angler. For the last two years he has entered as many local fishing tournaments as possible, and has tallied up some impressive showcases. His track record includes a fifth place finish in the 2017 KATS Saltwater Tournament, a third place finish in the 2017 Auto Nation Roundup, and a first place finish in the 2018 Mid-Coast Electric Annual Fishing Tournament.

Kurtis’ favorite lure is the Flex Mullet.

Tyler Brantly Florida Pro Staff Boca Chica Baits

Tyler Brantly – Venice, Florida

Tyler moved from Atlanta, GA, to the salt of Anna Maria Island, FL, at the age of four. He quickly fell in love with inshore fishing, and is grateful to have grown up in a state so rich with natural resources!

Tyler has fished coastal waters all over Florida, but his home waters lie on the west coast, from Tampa Bay to Pine Island Sound. Tyler is passionate about technical inshore fishing, and using artificials to target redfish, snook, tarpon, and trout.

Paul LeBlanc – Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The Kayaking Cajun. Paul LeBlanc is a New Orleans native that now lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Paul specializes in thick accents and kayak fishing the Louisiana marsh for redfish and specks. His lure of choice is the Q-Tail “Pistolero” rigged with a traditional jig head which he used to work marsh creeks and oyster beds.

Aside from Paul’s passion for fishing, he is also an environmental consultant with a passionate stance on marsh habitat conservation and restoration. As a Louisiana native, Paul sees first hand how deleterious anthropogenic activities are on marsh habitat. To combat this, Paul has worked on a number of barrier island restoration projects with his current company, and was also a state fisheries biologist for LDFW.

Paul’s favorite lure is the Q-Tail.

Scott Malhiet – Metairie, Louisiana

Scott Malhiet started fishing redfish at five years old when his dad would take him to Golden Meadow to fish with Mr. Troy Robichaux. Although Scott has lived in Houston, New Jersey, and Germany, he has always considered Louisiana home.

Scott moved back to Louisiana to attended college at LSU and received a degree in Natural Resource Conservation and Management with a concentration in Wetland Sciences. Scott chose environmental sciences as he recognized a developing problem with marsh loss in Louisiana and wanted to help solve this problem in his professional career.

Scott, his wife, and his son now reside in Southeast Louisiana where Scott fishes the IFA Redfish Series with his fishing partner, Trey Waller.

Pete Soliz – Corpus Christi, Texas

Pete was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, where salt is in the air. As a kid, Pete would often camp out on piers and fish through the night. As his passion for chasing reds and specs in the upper Laguna Madre grew, Pete realized that fishing is not only about catching fish, but also about comoradory. Thus, Team Murk was born in an effort to spread the sport of fishing. Pete and his Team Murk teammates regularly fish tournaments together, and have gained quite the following on the Texas Coast!

Pete’s go-to lure is the Flex Mullet.

Trey Waller – Prairieville, Louisiana

Trey Waller started fishing as soon as he could hold a rod. Originally starting out on the bass pond, Trey and his father honed their skills as tournament anglers. As a child, Trey’s family spent many a summer in Grand Isle, LA, where he fell in love with the tug of Specks and Reds. Trey would later earn his B.S. in Management from LSU. Cut to 2017, Trey received a full sponsorship to compete in the coveted IFA Redfish Series. Trey’s team would compete that year as one of the youngest teams to fish the IFA Redfish Series.

Trey’s lure of choice is the Flex Mullet.

Dom Lopez Boca Chica Baits Pro Staff from Corpus Christi Texas

Dom Lopez – Corpus Christi, Texas

Dom is an avid wade fisherman. He’s especially passionate about winter wading for trophy trout, and learned big trout techniques at an early age from his father. He also really enjoys wading the flats and stalking spooky tailing reds.

His go-to lure flats fishing lure is the Q-Tail.

Capt. Dave Chorazak – Port Charlotte, Florida

Capt. Dave Chorazak has called the southwest coast of Florida, specifically Punta Gorda home since 1999. While enjoying all aspects of fishing from offshore to fly fishing, his specialty is shallow water inshore fishing, with a focus on teaching people to fish with artificial lures. With water quality issues being of upmost importance to the Charlotte Harbor estuary, Capt. Dave tries to stay informed and active in the community and to promote clean water policies for the southwest Florida area.

Capt. Dave’s go-to lure is the Killi Jerk.

Tim Chapman of Boca Chica Baits Pro Staff with Some Nice Trout

Tim Chapman – Corpus Christi, Texas

Originally from Louisiana, Tim grew up fishing local rivers and lakes for bass and catfish with his father and grandfather. It was in his teens when he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he got his first taste of saltwater fishing. Tim’s addiction to the salt really hit when he started wading and kayak fishing for reds, trout, and drum with friends. In recent years Tim and his friends decided to form a fishing team, Team Murk. Their goal is to expand fishing knowledge and spread their passion for the sport to others.

Tim loves both the Flex Mullet and Q-Tail rigged weedless.
Chris Ambriz Boca Chica Bait Company Pro Staff

Chris Ambriz – Corpus Christi, Texas

Chris was born and raised near the salt. Hailing from Corpus Christi, he fell in love with fishing at an early age. He remembers the fishing trips with his grandfather and father where he caught his first redfish and spec. As the years passed, his passion grew, and along the way he met friends that shared the same passion for fishing. Those friends linked up to form Team Murk, where they regularly fish tournaments in the Corpus Christi area.

Chris’ favorite lure is the Q-Tail.

Jesse Meza Boca Chica Bait Company Pro Staff

Jesse “Pal” Meza – Corpus Christi, Texas

Born and raised in Corpus Christi,Texas.  For Jesse it all started as a kid fishing and the surrounding waters from his family. It was then he knew he was hooked.

Jesse later met a group of buddies who shared his passion for fishing. As they started to fish more together they learned different skills from one another. Jesse and his buddies would eventually start a fishing team called Team Murk. Team Murk has been together for eight years.
